Terrorists on the rampage in the Kurgi community in the western part of Birnin-Gwari general area in Kaduna State’s Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area have killed a motorcyclist and abducted scores of travellers along the Birnin-Gwari, Funtua road.

The terrorists were said to have blocked the road, trapping 30 vehicles and carting away the passengers’ loads in Kurgi.

Before their vehicles were released, the captive drivers were forced to pay the terrorists between N300,000 and N1,000,000.

Ishaq Kasai, Chairman of the Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kaduna on Sunday.

“On Thursday, September 15, 2022, three locals were kidnapped at farms in Kurgin Gabas Community in the western part of Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State by armed bandits,” he said.

“The bandits also enrouted the same Community on Friday, September 16, to steal a motorcycle (Bajaj model), killing the owner (Bala Balansi) instantly before going back to the forest.

The union demanded that troops be mobilized to ensure the reopening of the Birnin-Gwari-Funtua road and the unconditional release of the trapped vehicles.

“The Union believes that opening the road and maintaining surveillance will aid in addressing the problem of attacks on travelers, bringing permanent peace, and enhancing business and other economic activities in Birnin-Gwari LGA,” the statement continued.
