Trial Of Late Ms Buhari’s Chinese Lover Adjourned
The trial in Kano of a Chinese national, Geng Quangrong, accused of killing his Nigerian lover, Ms Ummukulsum Sani Buhari was again stalled on Tuesday over the absence of an interpreter.
Mr Quandong, 47, was alleged to have murdered Ummukulsum Buhari, 23, at Janbalu quarters for allegedly refusing his hand in marriage.
GWG.NG reports that at the resumed hearing on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, Muhammad Dan’azumi, the defence counsel, notified the court that an interpreter had not been provided for the accused.
This is the second time that the trial has been stalled at the High Court having been earlier adjourned last week following the absence of a lawyer for Mr Quandong.
The Chinese suspect who is alleged to have in a fit of rage over betrayal by Ms Buhari to have stormed her residence where she lived with her parents and stabbed his lover to death.
He was initially arraigned by the police on 21 September before a magistrates court at Zangeru Road in Kano during which the suspect addressed the court in Chinese.
The presiding magistrate, Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji had upon the confusion adjourned hearing on the case to 27 October, with the expectation that an interpreter would have been found to explain the charges to Mr Quandong in Chinese.
