The launch of an official website by Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi to promote political campaigns and solicit funds ahead of the 2023 presidential election has elicited mixed reactions in some quarters, particularly on social media platforms.

The former Anambra Governor, who encouraged his supporters to visit the official campaign website for the Obi-Datti Campaign organisation, disclosed that donations from willing donors could also be made through the platform.

Obi posted: “I invite every member of the OBIdient Family, and every supporter of our march to a new Nigeria to visit the official campaign website for the Obi-Datti Campaign organisation.

“You can use that medium to support and donate in cash & kind to the campaign obidatticampaign.com – PO”

This development sparked mixed reactions. Many queried Obi’s intentions because his supporters who are fondly called “Obidients” often push the campaign tag of ‘we no dey give ‘shishi’ meaning ‘we are not giving anything‘.

But his supporters argued that the fundraising is pivotal to actualisation of Obi’s presidency in 2023.

Before now, Obi had come under scrutiny over foreign donations and moves to solicit funds from outside the country.

GWG.NG reports that there are legal provisions that bar political parties and their candidates from raising campaign funds outside the country.
