The second anniversary of #EndSARS has taken a different turn, with police operatives firing teargas canisters at protesters at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos.
The Nigeria Police Force had taken over the Lekki Toll Gate in anticipation of the arrival of members of the #EndSARS movement.
Today marks the second anniversary of the Lekki shooting and the disbandment of Nigeria’s defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Police releasd teargas at #EndSARS at the protesters and gunshots were also heard.
Earlier, Nigerian rapper Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, announced a memorial procession to commemorate the second anniversary of the #EndSARS campaign via an Instagram flyer yesterday.
According to the flyer, the procession of cars would pass through the toll gate while waving Nigerian flags and chanting #EndSARS.
However, the police vowed to enforce a court order that no one should congregate at the Lekki tollgate for any reason.
EndSARS protesters had begun the memorial procession to mark the second anniversary of the killing of some Nigerian youths at the Lekki Tollgate as of press time.
The procession began near the tollgate and was led by Falz and comedian/actor Debo Adedayo, also known as Mr Macaroni, and other celebrities.
