The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP on Monday announced a plot by the Department of the State Services, DSS to frame the Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele of terrorism financing, arrest him and keep him away for 60 days.

The CUPP which announced this at a press conference on Monday, December 19, 2022 disclosed that a suit had been filed with case number FHC/ABJ/CS/2255/2022 at the Federal High Court with the intention of getting a court order to keep Emefiele out of circulation.

The CUPP speaking through its coordinator, Tochukwu Ohazurike lamented that the plot to arrest Emefiele was aimed at derailing the naira redesign policy and would have been effected on December 7 shortly after the court application but for the fact that Governor Emefiele travelled with President Muhammadu Buhari to the United States.

The CUPP named a presiding officer of the National Assembly and a presidential candidate of a major political party as part of the plot against Mr. Emefiele.

The CUPP which announced the plot against Governor Emefiele said the plot is aimed at derailing the cash withdrawal policy recently announced by the CBN which it alleged was seen as inimical to the interest of the plotters.

GWG.ng reports that the CUPP officials alleged that DSS officials were at the moment surrounding the venue of the press conference.

“It is shocking that the DG of DSS accused a man of terrorism financing and allowed him to travel with the president,” the CUPP helmsman said.

GWG.ng reports that several groups are also backing the claims of the CUPP at the press conference which is ongoing.
