The National Assembly is to defer its traditional Christmas Holiday to enable the lawmakers attend to what was on Thursday described as President Muhammadu Buhari’s error-full budget proposals for 2023.

The President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, disclosed the on Thursday as the Senate resolved to push off the passage of the 2023 Appropriation Bill earlier scheduled for Thursday to the 28th of December.

The National Assembly had been expected to proceed on Christmas and New Year holidays following the passage but the decision to push forward the passage of the budget proposals changed the plans.

Senate President Lawan, however, disclosed that the Senate and the House of Representatives were collaborating with the executive branch of government to clean up the errors in the budget towards passing the budget by December 28.

The Senate President had explained to the lawmakers that the errors in the budget as submitted by President Buhari did not end until late on Wednesday leaving little time for the two chambers to harmonise and present a clean copy for the consideration of the two chambers before the Christmas Break.

GWG.ng reports that President Buhari submitted the 2023 budget proposals to the National Assembly at a joint sitting on October 7.
