Labour Party vice presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed cried on national television on Sunday evening as the Channels Television townhall opened as he recalled how his family and late father became objects of insult by political rivals.

Noting that after he initially entered the ticket that he was able to address negative insinuations against the presidential candidate by some political interests only for his family to become objects of ridicule.

GWG.ng reports that he referred to comments by some APC operatives that referred to his father as Mauritanian.

Datti Baba-Ahmed from Zaria, Kaduna State has a strong family background with the spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as one of his famous brothers.

He said:

“When I joined the ticket, I impeached certain lies against him (Peter Obi) and particularly my good friend on the APC side on the same level. You know when people think they have money, they have power, and the sitting authority is theirs…there is no level. Someone has to tap them on the shoulder. I did and told him do it and I will do three you know I am capable of doing it.

“However me and my family have been paying a huge price for my attempts to rescue Nigeria. They sent all sorts of people after me. I would have been much happier if only they stopped at me as an individual, but the thing that I was able to sort at the presidential and vice-presidential candidate…

“About Thirty five years ago our dad passed away no one insulted him until I joined the presidential contest. It is not fair, it doesn’t happen anywhere in the world. You don’t insult peoples parents or their families. It doesn’t happen it is a huge price for anyone to pay…” he said before he cried quietly before the moderator Seun Okinbaloye cut in to stop him.
