US flights resume

Travelers to the United States, US from across the world including Nigeria were in suspense on Wednesday as domestic flights resumed after being grounded due to a system failure at the Federal Aviation Administration, FAA.

The flight disruption was conveyed in a Notice to Airmen, NOTAM but flights were now resuming after the resolution of the computer glitch that caused the disruption.

The impact on international flights was not immediately dispatched but GWG.ng reports that most international flights into and out of the United States are linked to domestic flights.

The NOTAM, nevertheless, disclosed that the impact on flights is likely to be global.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that an outage related to NOTAMs, which are essential notices & directives for flight crew, all personnel concerned with flight operations, ATC etc, is the issue –

Following the NOTAM, the FAA has ordered all FAAs to suspend domestic flight departures until 9am ET.

The body noted that the suspension was to “Allow the agency to validate the integrity of flight and safety information” — no word yet on any similar blanket suspensions on international flights waiting to depart to US from abroad.

The news that the flights within the US had resumed was making the airlines within and outside the country to reschedule their operations to accommodate the disruption.
