Frank Mba commissioner Lagos

Suggestions that Mr Frank Mba has been deployed as the new commissioner of police in Lagos State have been denied by the Police Command.

A statement issued by the Lagos State Police Command on the speculations affirmed that there was no change in the top leadership of the police hierarchy in the state.

GWG.ng reports that there were speculations on Friday that erstwhile police spokesman, Mr Frank Mba had been deployed to Lagos State as the commissioner of police.

The move had generated traction online with suggestions that it was another move in the alleged conspiracy against APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. No Igbo had been deployed to Lagos State in recent history especially since the onset of the Fourth Republic.

A statement issued by the Lagos Police Command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin late on Friday following what he claimed as “requests for clarification on the status of the Commissioner of Police in the Command” read in part:

“We wish to state categorically that the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State is still CP Abiodun Alabi, fdc, mnim, psc. For the avoidance of doubt, no Commissioner of Police has been posted to Lagos State.

“Members of the public are therefore urged to disregard fake news making the rounds that a new Commissioner of Police has been deployed to Lagos State Police Command.

“It is hoped that this clarification would halt the barrage of calls to officers of the Command which has resulted in needless distraction and waste of valuable time.

“The Lagos State Police Command will keep residents and the good people of Lagos State updated whenever the need arises.”

The expectation that Frank Mba as commissioner of Police in Lagos would have been interpreted by some in the APC as a hostile act from the police hierarchy.
