Peter Obi Gets Big Boost With Ijaw Endorsement

The Ijaw National Congress, INC has endorsed Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi in the forthcoming General Election.

The endorsement was carried out at the Ijaw House, Yenaoga, Bayesla State on Thursday morning in the course of an interactive session with the apex Ijaw socio cultural body.

GWG.ng reports that the Ijaw who are spread from Sierra Leone to Gabon dominate Bayelsa State and have sizeable populations in Delta, Rivers and Ondo States and are spread around the coast of Nigeria. They have a population strength of about 4 million which could be about 2% of the Nigerian population of 200 million plus.

The endorsement of Obi, the Labour Party presidential flag bearer by the Ijaw follows the endorsements also received from socio-cultural groups in the Southwest, Middle Belt and Southeast.

Meanwhile, Gov. Douye Diri of Bayalsa is set to inaugurate two major projects to mark his third year in office as governor.

The projects slated for inauguration are the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme (BHIS) Complex and the State Transport Terminal at Igbogene in Yenagoa Local Government Area (LGA).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Diri’s administration will be three on Feb. 14.

According to the governor, several other legacy projects across the state will be inaugurated by prominent Nigerians as part of the activities to mark the anniversary.

He said the projects included the dual carriage way from Igbogene to Tombia-Amassoma road.
