Labour Party candidate killed

The Labour Party candidate for Enugu East Senatorial district, Oyibo Chukwu was killed in a targeted assassination on Wednesday according to reports emerging from Enugu.

Oyibo, a lawyer was said to have been attacked while returning from a campaign trip in the Agbani area.

He was killed specifically killed at Amechi, Awkunanaw local government area of Enugu.

He was said to have been burnt inside his vehicle. It has not been confirmed if the three persons who were with him in the vehicle were also killed and burnt along with him.

Information about the attack is still very sketchy and the assassination was confirmed by Chijoke Edeoga, the Labour Party governorship candidate in Enugu State who said that Labour Party candidates in the state had become targets of assassins.

There are also reports that the Enugu APC governorship candidate in the state, Uche Nnaji was also attacked at about the same spot where the Labour Party candidate was killed.

The development means that voters in Enugu East would skip voting for the Senate election in the election due this Saturday in which the late Labour candidate, Chukwu had the penultimate governor of the state, Senator Chimaorke Nnamani as his main rival for the Senate seat.
