An unemployed graduate Donatus Matthew Kozali, allegedly involved in Okada business and flying the ticket of Labour Party has defeated a principal officer of the House of Representatives, Rep Gideon Gwani representing Kaura Federal Constituency, Kaduna State.

Donatus Matthew who flew the ticket of Labour Party, scored 10,508 to defeat Gwani, who polled 10,297 votes. Besides defeating the four-term member of the House, he also defeated a professor who flew the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

GWG.ng reports that Gwani was seeking to hold on to the seat for the fifth time having first been elected in 2003.

He lost his bid for re-election to Barnabas Bala but bounced back in 2011 and had held on to the seat since then.

He became Minority Whip of the House in 2019 and was seeking to be re-elected for a fifth term.

Announcing the result at Kaura Local Government Secretariat in southern part of Kaduna state, the Returning Officer, Professor Elija D. Ella, declared that Mr. Mathew Donatus Kuzai as the winner, while Professor Benjamin Kumai Gugong of APC came third with 9, 919 votes.

GWG.ng reports that the victory of Matthew follows the wave of support for the Labour Party presidential candidate and was also boosted by the sympathy that flowed towards the party after the death of Mrs Victoria Chintex who is also from Kaura Federal Constituency.

It was gathered that he did not have a regular job until the advent of the election season while some sources said that he was also an okada rider.
