Some INEC election officers who allegedly acted as polling officers in last Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections in Imo State have disowned the results being paraded from the state saying that the elections did not hold.

Some of the officers who affirmed that election did not hold said that they came to exempt themselves from blame in the light of submissions of results supposedly from the areas they supervised.

Video clips of the television interviews of some of the officers were trending on Tuesday evening on twitter.

One of them, Onyebuchi Ogbonnaya, who worked as an SPO said: “I worked as an SPO in Ogbutu in Oru Local Government Area. Unfortunately, election did not hold there. I want to do the needful to exempt myself from all blame.”

Another lady speaking in the same vein who did not give her name said:

“I have twelve polling units, no election was conducted in any of them”

GWG.ng reports that the development from Imo State where the INEC officers disowned the results supposedly credited to them is coming against the background of nationwide disenchantment over the conduct of the election by INEC.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Labour Party among others have called for the cancellation of the election principally on the failure of INEC to sustain its promise on automatic transmission of results.
