Bode George Tinubu letter

Confusion was breaking out on Wednesday over an alleged letter from President-Elect Bola Tinubu to his unrepentant foe, Chief Bode George in which the incoming leader allegedly expressed his goodwill and gesture for co-existence.

Tinubu in the said letter called on Bode George not to go on self-exile because of the political development in Nigeria saying that he was needed to provide constructive opposition in the incoming administration.

The alleged letter dated March 15, 2023 which was circulating in cyberspace on Wednesday came against the background of repeated claims by Bode George in the past that he would leave Nigeria should Tinubu emerge president of the country.

Following the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC of Asiwaju Tinubu as president-elect the focus had turned on Bode George on whether he would fulfil his threat of relocating from the country.

GWG.ng reports that on Wednesday a letter supposedly from Tinubu to Bode George extending his good gestures turned viral.

In the letter, Tinubu had supposedly said:

“It is with genuine purpose and a peaceful intent that I write you this letter. I do so because the time has not yet come for you to proceed to political self-exile.

“It will not be a thing of happiness for me that m emergence as President-elect will herald your departure from public life in Lagos and Nigeria. I, therefore, urge you to shelve all thoughts of self-exile and political retirement,” Tinubu was supposed to have written to Bode George in the letter.

However, a denial of the letter was circulated on twitter by political associates of the president-elect supposedly in the name of Bayo Onanuga, his spokesman.

Among those who circulated the denial was Bashir Ahmad, a special assistant to the president who shared it on his twitter page.

GWG.ng, however, reports that the denial was not on Bayo Onanuga’s twitter handle. A phone call to Onanuga was not answered and a text message did not receive a response leaving a thread of confusion over the alleged letter from Tinubu to Bode George.
