Alleged Treason Against Obi: Lai Mohammed Trying To Outdo His APC Colleagues In Thoughtless Talks - Ezekwesili

A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has slammed the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, for alleging treason against the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Recall that the Federal Government warned Peter Obi against inciting Nigerians to violence over the outcome of the presidential election.

In an interview with some foreign media outlets in Washington, DC on Tuesday, Mohammed stated that it is wrong for Obi to seek redress in court over the outcome of the presidential election while also inciting people to violence.

The minister called Obi’s running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed’s statement that President-elect Bola Tinubu should not be sworn in as president treasonous.

However, in a swift reaction via her official Twitter handle on Tuesday, Ezekwesili called Mohammed’s treason accusation “nonsense” and “thoughtless talk.”

A reasonable person, she says, will not waste time worrying about people like Lia Mohammed, whom she calls a peddler of false accusations.

Nonsense. No reasonable persons in the world ever waste their time worrying about peddlers of false accusations. I think the Minister Lai Mohammed of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture @FMICNigeria is trying to outdo his APC colleagues in thoughtless talks.

It is the height of sophistry, thoughtless talk and abuse of power for the Minister of Information and Culture @FMICNigeria to throw accusation of Treason on Political Opponents who have taken the right Judicial Processes in contesting the result of an election. Stop it!

Your @NigeriaGov @MBuhari conducted a fatally flawed election and instead of circumspection, you want to cower the citizens and your opponents who are aggrieved? What happened to Wisdom in knowing that this is the wrong moment to abuse your power of incumbency? Get wisdom now,” Ezekwesili twitted.

Meanwhile, Obi in a reaction via his officials Twitter handle has since denounced the allegations.

“In the past few days, I have observed various campaigns of calumny directed at my person, with the latest being allegations attributed to the information Minister, Lai Mohammed from Washington DC,” he said.

“It is most unfortunate that these consistent efforts to portray me quite contrary to what I am, and my core values, is coming from such high quarters. Minister Lai accusing me of stoking insurrection is totally malicious and fictitious.”

“I have never discussed or encouraged anyone to undermine the Nigerian state; I have never sponsored or preached any action against the Nigerian state.”

According to Obi, those initiating the actions have increasingly used their official positions and agents to make false allegations against him.
