Anger is boiling over among some key associates of Atiku Abubakar over the call for the arrest of Peter Obi by one of the former vice-president’s aides, Reno Omokri.

GWG.ng reports that Omokri, a frontline campaigner for the Atiku/Okowa presidency, had asked the Federal Government to go after Peter Obi, Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, if he makes treasonable statement.

Omokri made the call in a tweet on Wednesday following the assertion by Lai Mohammed, the minister of Information and Culture that Obi, and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed were guilty of treason.

He was reacting to a warning on Tuesday by Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, that Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, risked being prosecuted for treason over some of their utterances on the February 25 presidential election.

Reacting to the development, Omokri in a tweet said: “The next time either Peter Obi or Datti Baba Ahmed open their mouths to make treasonous comments, the Federal Government should arrest them. Nothing will happen. What happened when FG arrested Nnamdi Kanu? Did heaven fall? Arrest the wimpy simps if they blab anyhow!”

While many Nigerians in his comment section rebuffed him, GWG.ng gathered that the assertion has caused outrage in the camp of Atiku with some alleging that Reno Omokri was not speaking the mind of Atiku Abubakar.

“He is not speaking for Atiku and indeed he is embarrassing us, I can assure you of that,” a senior aide of the former vice-president told GWG.ng.

“Reno Omokri is doing solo and it is not to Atiku’s interest and it is mostly to get engagement on his social media platforms, so the media should not link his issues with Peter Obi with Atiku please,” the top Atiku aide told GWG.ng
