Mbadinuju Dead At 78: Political Legacy

He was elected governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in 1999 but faced a stormy time as governor as his regime was dogged by controversies including strikes by teachers and doctors.

The PDP ruled him out for contention for the 2003 ticket, a decision that pushed him to obtain the ticket of the Alliance for Democracy, AD. He subsequently lost the election to Dr Chris Ngige of the PDP according to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC but the courts upturned that decision saying that the winner was the then unheralded businessman from the then unknown All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Mr Peter Obi.
