Supplementary Poll: Ballot Snatcher Meets Untimely Death In Kebbi

A member of the proscribed vigilante group, Yansakai, was reportedly shot dead by soldiers on patrol at Bajida polling unit 001, Fakai Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The deceased was shot dead for attempting to snatch a ballot box from officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, during the ongoing supplementary elections in the state.

According to Vanguard, eyewitnesses in the area said the deceased was said to have intruded into the polling unit claiming to be a security agent.

He was alleged to have attempted to snatch a gun from a soldier at the polling unit when he was shot.

An eyewitness said, “He and his group rushed to the polling unit trying to snatch the ballot box as INEC officials were moving the ballot box to the collation centre.

“Efforts to stop him by people at the polling unit failed and as he struggled to collect the gun from a soldier he was shot by another soldier.”

Meanwhile, party agents at different polling units where the supplementary election is being held in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State distribute clothes (wrappers) to women in an attempt to buy their votes.

The party agents positioned themselves at obscure areas to distribute the clothing material to the women in Kardi.

Also at Hisbah office polling unit, Marafa ward, Ubandoma/Takalau in the old town area of Birnin Kebbi, some male voters told journalists that they were given a bag of fertilizer and N200,000 to vote APC, while some said they were given between N30,000 and N40,000 to vote PDP in the governorship election.

A woman, who spoke to DailyTrust Newspapers at the polling unit, said she and some of her friends were given wrappers by APC and N7,000 by PDP party agents.

Women were also given wrappers, N3,000 and spaghetti to vote at Babban/dutsi TVC polling unit in Maurida/Karyo ward, Birnin Kebbi local government.
