The Lagos State Government will arraign Uzuokwu Solomon, 18, today, on Wednesday, for allegedly placing prank calls to the state’s fire service.

Ololade Agboola, the deputy director of public affairs for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said in a statement that Solomon allegedly called the fire service’s emergency line on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 5:35 p.m. from Harmony Estate in the state’s Ajah area and reported a fire emergency inside the estate. This allegedly caused emergency procedures to be activated and the dispatch of the fire trucks from Lekki Phase II Fire service station.

“On arrival, it was discovered that there was no fire incident in the estate. Because of the frequency of such calls in the past, the Estate security helped in the investigation which led to the arrest of the notorious false caller”.

As a result, the offender who had been detained is due to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction at Ogba Magistrate on April 19, 2023.

The director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, expressed her joy at the culprit’s arrest while emphasizing the state government’s position on malicious fake calls, which are illegal in Lagos State and subject to punishment.

She said that the arrest and subsequent arraignment will act as a deterrence for other misinformed persons who have a practice of placing fictitious calls and misinforming emergency personnel.

The statement further mentioned that the crime was sanctioned under the 2013 Command and Control Center Law and the Lagos State Fire Service Law.
