NPC, NYSC Premises In Lagos Flooded After Heavy Downpour, Staff Says ‘It Is Normal’

The premises of the National Population Commission (NPC) and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Babs Animashaun Road, Surulere area of Lagos, have been flooded.

The development followed the heavy rain on Thursday which started at about 11.30 a.m and continued until about 1 p.m.

A worker at the NPC office, who spoke with NAN, said it was “normal” for the area to be flooded whenever it rains.

“Sadly, the situation is the same. The flooding here continues. I am not sure anyone considered the NPC, NOA, and NYSC offices to do anything to stop or reduce the flood,” the worker said.

“We are located close to a canal, which makes it worse. We are not even talking about the effects of walking through the stagnant and dirty water.”

At the premise of the NYSC office in Surulere, some corps members and visitors were seen wading through the flood to find their way inside or outside the place.

Following the downpour, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) advised residents of Lagos to take precautions to avoid dangers.

Ibrahim Farinloye, the territorial coordinator of NEMA in the state, spoke on Thursday while advising school proprietors and teachers to keep children in their custody for 30 minutes after rainfall before releasing them.

He said people should not take refuge in makeshift shelters as the places could be washed off by floods.
