The apex socio-cultural organization of the Ekid people in Eket local government area of Akwa Ibom State, Ekid People’s Union, EPU, has expressed deep grief and sadness over the death of His Eminence, Dr Sunday Mbang.

This was contained in a statement signed by the National President General, Dr Samuel Udonsak and National Secretary General, Barr Bassey Dan-Abia, and made available to newsmen in Uyo.

According to the statement the Union which extolled the virtues of the late Eket son and Prelate Emeritus of Methodist Church Nigeria,  disclosed that it would in consultation with relevant institutions inaugurate a central planning Committee to drive the obsequies of the deceased.

The statement reads in part: “His Majesty, Edidem Etim Abia, the Paramount Ruler of Eket and Grand Patron of Ekid People’s Union (EPU) has formally received the notification of the death of His Eminence, Prelate Sunday Coffie Mbang and has formally informed EPU.

“On behalf of Ekid people, its leadership and the Union, we express our deep grief and sadness at this loss that is as irreparable as it is irreplaceable.

“Even at this moment of the Prelate’s peaceful passing, we must lift our spirits high as we bask in joy and pride at the memories of him that we would cherish.

“For in the true steps of Christ and his calling, a worthy Lamb, the Prelate proceeded with selfless and sacrificial poise, to labour relentlessly in God’s vineyard in order to perfect the spiritual frailties of man and reconcile him to God.

“It is our prayer that the family and Community, would receive God’s strength and fortitude, and that even in his passing, the Church would receive the enablement of the Holy Spirit to continue the advancement of God’s work on earth.

“Ekid Nation and its good people, will celebrate the life and times of this worthy and legendary son, whose leading light for decades dotted the firmament”

It could be recalled that the prominent and outspoken religious leader,  Mbang died in his sleep on Tuesday May 16, 2023 at the age of 86.
