Come to Our Aid: Ibadan Residents Urge Makinde After Heavy Flood

Sunday, 23rd July, 2023 was a bitter experience for some residents of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State upon a massive flood that followed a downpour in the town.

Especially affected were residents of Oluwo, Olodo and Ajibode-Oke Ona communities as they were overtaken by flood.

GWG.ng correspondent Olodo bridge became a shadow of itself due to the heavy downpour leaving the people of the area in a state of confusion.

This ugly incident made residents of Ajibode-Oke Ona community in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde to come to their aid.

The residents said the call was urgent to prevent the impending flood disaster that may lead to the loss of lives and property in the community.

They appealed for urgent intervention following the threat of flood to submerge the area.

A community leader in the area, Dr. Bayo Busari, on Monday,, maintained that there was an urgent need for solutions to prevent flood and protect the lives and properties of residents in that area of Ibadan.

He added, “Several houses have already been submerged by water, and unless urgent intervention comes to the area, some other buildings may also be affected”.

Another resident maintained that some building constructions in the community has collapsed.

“A building under construction has collapsed today. The building is located at Olorunshogo close Ajibode, very close to the University of Ibadan. Fortunately, there is no casualty. But, it has affected other buildings”- he said.
