Arsenal won the Community Shield, the first silverware of the 2023/24 season in dramatic fashion on Sunday evening after a last-minute own goal by league and FA champion, Manchester City took the game to extra time.

It looked as if Manchester City was about to run away with the game after Coal Palmer shot a goal past the Arsenal defence in the 77th minute of a game that produced little sparks.

However, following that the Arsenal side piled pressure which paid off in the 11th minute of the extra time when City defender, Akanji deflected a shot into his net.

In the penalty shootout Arsenal scored all four while City lost two of their shots.

GWG.ng reports that it is the third time in a row that Manchester City would lose the Community Shield to Arsenal.

Kevin De Bruyne who came out from the bench helped to lift the City game and his efforts contributed to the goal that was believed would sink Arsenal.

However, he became the villain of sorts after he threw away his penalty kick during the shoot out that eventually gave Arsenal the FA community shield, first silverware of the season.
