Scrap It Now! Kate Henshaw Commences Campaign To Scrap NYSC
Leading Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw has commenced a campaign to scrap the National Youth Service Corp, NYSC on the claim that the present insecurity makes the scheme untenable.
Taking to her Twitter account, the accomplished actress articulated her viewpoint that it might be more prudent to scrap the NYSC scheme, considering the potential risks to the safety of corps members as they traverse the nation.
Henshaw shared anecdotes from her own time as a corp member, underscoring the comparative freedom that existed for individuals to travel across the country without concerns for their well-being. Drawing a stark contrast to the present scenario, she emphasized the futility of jeopardizing the lives of young people in the name of the outdated concepts that led to the establishment of the corps.
In her social media post, Henshaw stated, “When I served in the North, it was a very memorable experience. Travelling from Bauchi by road to the airport was safe & then flying to Lagos just with my NYSC ID card, which also got me rebate on my ticket. It’s time to SCRAP this idea since corpers can’t travel within this country without LET OR HINDRANCE! Stop putting the lives of young people at risk with moribund ideas. Security is a priority & needs to be sorted totally, not technically 🤨🙄.”
Kate Henshaw’s perspective to scrap the scheme highlights the pressing need for a reassessment of the NYSC programme, taking into consideration the evolving safety concerns and challenges faced by the country’s youth. As discussions around the future of the NYSC scheme continue, her voice adds a significant dimension to the ongoing discourse.
