Akeredolu returns

The political space in Ondo State was on Thursday evening in a suspense following reports of the return of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to the country after three months of medical vacation.

GWG.ng reports that Akeredolu left the country reportedly for Germany after transmitting power to his deputy, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, a development that was shadowed with much political drama that included sideshows from the deputy governor’s wife.

With Akeredolu ending his second term in office next year there are insinuations that some loyalists of the governor interested in succeeding him want to emasculate Aiyedatiwa to prevent him from having a fair chance in the succession.

The government is yet to confirm the return of Akeredolu to the country but the Punch in a report said that it got a positive confirmation on the return from the majority leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr Wole Ogunmolasuyi.

He said the governor was already in his Ibadan residence.

Ogunmolasuyi said, “We thank God the governor has arrived in the country. He landed in Abuja and moved straight to Ibadan.”

GWG.ng reports that earlier, the powerful wife of the governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu in a post on X gave a clue to the return of the governor..

“Homebound,” Mrs Akeredolu captioned her husband’s picture in an airplane in an indication of his return..

GWG.ng reports that the return of Governor Akeredolu and assumption of office is bound to trigger political drama in Ondo State with more machinations against the the embattled deputy.
