The Benue State Ministry of Humanitarian and Disaster Management has given notice of disengagement to all its enrolled Cooks as part of its activities in undertaking reviews and evaluation of the school feeding programme.

Commissioner for Humanitarian and Disaster Management Benue state, Aondowase Kunde who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, said this is in order to optimize the set objective.

Kunde stated that this became necessary owing to the corrupt practices carried out by the cooks while running the programme.

He said, “the decision was taken at a general staff meeting and briefing of the Ministry where the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian and Disaster Management received briefings on the Social Investments Programmes and other agencies under the Ministry.

“This arose as a result of widespread allegations of abscondment by Cooks, recruitment of cooks living outside of their Places of Assignment; conspiracy by cooks and some officials to defraud the programme of aggregated food items and other infractions inhibiting the effective implementation of the programme in the State.

“A transparent and credible process of re-engagement of Cooks will be carried out and Cooks who are certified to have discharged their duties with distinction in the past and would want to remain on the programme will be given the opportunity to apply for re-absorption into the programme while new cooks shall also be considered.

The Benue commissioner further advised the public to wait it for guidelines on recruitment, re-engagement/engagement and refrain from patronizing swindlers who have formed the habit of collecting monies from gullible women to recruit them into the school feeding programme.
