Mba Ukweni, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has appealed to Nigerians to refrain from criticising and bullying members of the court while stating that only God is error-free.

Speaking to reporters in Calabar on Thursday, the lawyer said the judiciary has been through a lot, and the public should be patient with them.

Speaking specifically about the outcome of the 2023 Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), which confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s victory at the polls, Ukweni stated that the tribunal judges gave their judgement and made their positions based on the evidence presented to them and the law, adding that those who are dissatisfied have the option of bringing their grievances to the Supreme Court.

He did, however, admit human limitations, declaring that only God is completely error-free.

“I don’t like a situation where the judiciary is castigated to the point of intimidation due to their work. The judiciary has had a lot of rough times in this country.

“There has been the issue of undue interference with the judiciary, an arm of government that is supposed to be independent from the other arms and dispassionate.

“Judges are not infallible. It is only God who is. So, the public should be a little patient with the judiciary,” he said.

Mba Ukweni also emphasised the importance of strong institutions in Nigeria.
