President Bola Tinubu, barring any last-minute adjustments, will announce a palliative package to help Nigerian workers cope with the removal of fuel subsidies during his Independence Day speech on October 1.

Olajide Oshundun, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Labour stated that this is part of efforts toward preventing the planned nationwide strike by organised labour.

Labour unions in the country declared an indefinite strike beginning on Tuesday, October 3, to protest President Tinubu’s claimed failure to offer post-subsidy palliatives for workers.

However, Oshundun stated that the ministry has planned a last-minute meeting with labour leaders to discuss President Tinubu’s remarks during his October 1 Independence Day broadcast.

According to him, Tinubu is scheduled to present the workers’ relief package during the traditional presidential speech on Nigeria’s Independence Day.
