Tinubu United Nations address

In his address to the nation on Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day, President Bola Tinubu announced a significant wage increase of an additional N25,000 for low-grade workers over the next six months.

This move might be link to the demands of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), who declared an indefinite strike set to begin on Tuesday, October 3rd.

The planned strike, initiated by the NLC and TUC, aims to pressure the government into addressing concerns related to the removal of fuel subsidies and the issue of minimum wage. President Tinubu addressed these concerns directly in his speech, assuring citizens that the government is actively working to provide transportation services at reduced prices to alleviate the burden caused by the fuel subsidy removal.

President Tinubu’s promise of a wage increase and efforts to mitigate the impact of the subsidy removal indicate a response to the labor unions’ demands. However, it remains uncertain whether these pledges will be enough to avert the impending nationwide strike set to commence in just a few days.

As the nation awaits further developments, the prospect of a nationwide strike looms, emphasizing the urgency of resolving the issues at hand to ensure industrial harmony and stability in the country.
