Bayelsa APC campaign flag-off

Fresh facts have emerged as to why the flag off of the All Progressives Congress, APC campaign for the Bayelsa State governorship campaign was called off at the last minute.

Sources disclosed that the stage had been set for the flag-off of the campaign to return Chief Timipire Sylva to the Government House in Bayelsa State on Saturday with the campaign launch at the Oxbow Lake Pavillion,

“High-level party officials had been expected with the expected presence of either Mr President along with the V.P and others,” a senior APC chief told GWG.ng.

However, everything unraveled at the very last minute as the rally was called off at the last minute as party chiefs again reconsidered the court judgment which nullified Sylva as a candidate for the election.

GWG.ng reports that a Federal High Court had disqualified Sylva on the claim that electing him would have breached the constitutional requirements on term limits given the fact that he had already held the office of governor for six years.

The party has, however, promised to vacate the judgment.

Besides the court judgment another reason given for the postponement of the flag-off of the APC campaign in Bayelsa was the absence of funds and lack of cordiality among senior party chiefs.

As a source said: “most moneybags approached by the candidate for help were not willing to assist as they all accuse him of being self-centered and not patronizing them while in office. That is in addition to the fact virtually who is who in Bayelsa APC is not in good terms with the candidate due to what is perceived as his selfishness, high handedness and ‘one man show’ way of running the party’s affairs in the State. Everything is between himself as candidate and the State party Chairman Dr Dennis Otiotio who also happens to be his cousin.”

Campaign spokesman, Perry Tukuwei did not answer a call put to him on Saturday as to the decision to cancel the flag-off of the APC campaign to win the Bayelsa governorship.
