‘Some Personalities Crippling Our Efforts Against Corruption’

The Chairman Kano Public Complaint and Anti Corruption Commission (PCACC), Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, has lamented that some influential personalities in the State (names withheld) are influencing power to be in Abuja, to thwart the effort of the anti-graft from performing constitutional role to probe them over alleged corruption levelled against them.

This is just as he disclosed that there are a myriad of challenges, undermining the institution, as well as personal security of the anti-agency staff, noting that all these are aimed at cripplING the efficiency and effective operation of the commission from discharging its role of fighting corruption

Delivering an address at a collaborative anti-corruption symposium, the Chairman of Kano PCACC in Kano, Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado stated that they have come together with the police to discuss their roles in the effective fight against corruption.

According to him, “Some people went to Abuja to instigate other anti-corruption agencies against the commission adding that there were these enemies of progress that were hellbent on severing the relationship the PCACC enjoys with other anti-corruption agencies”.

He, however, disclosed that the commission was not established to intimidate nor to witch hunt anybody saying whoever felt anything against the commission had right to seek redress

The one-day event which took place on Thursday at the Kano Anti Corruption Institute is themed ”Role of Law Enforcement Agencies in Fight against Corruption”.

The Kano Anti-graft boss states “Following a landmark court decision that reaffirms the position of the state anti-graft agency, the gathering is timely.

“It will enhance the capacity and determine the roles of security agencies in the fight against corruption in the state”.

While speaking on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Baffa Bichi reassures that Kano state government will never interfere with the Independence of the state anti-graft agency.

He stated that the regime inherited a lot of corruption perpetrated by the immediate past regime that is worse than “aristocracy and cleptocracy”.

He further promised that the government is doing its best to ensure that civil servants adhere to “service, objectivity, accountability, public leadership, accountability and integrity” to fight against corruption.

“Where there is corruption in the leadership, the fight against corruption will only be a fight in futility. There is good leadership in Kano that is adjudged for being stern against corrupt acts. He is known to have relieved some of his aides who engaged in corrupt acts in their positions,” he added.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police CP Muhammad Usain described the responsibility of law enforcement agents as including prevention of crime, collaboration with sister organizations and training and capacity building.

He assured the people of the state he would continue to use both kinetic and non-kinetic means to fight crime as they collaborated with the PCACC.
