Unknown gunmen took their spoil on Saturday from the Imo State governorship election as they grabbed N1.5 million in cash from vote buyers operating at All Saints Anglican Cathedral.

GWG.ng reports that the vote buyers were operating easily despite warnings from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC that they were deploying to check the activities of vote buyers who have been brazen in their solicitations in recent times.

It was gathered that the unknown gunmen who were about a dozen grabbed the money from the vote buyers at the four polling stations that were located within the cathedral after sporadically shooting into the air to scare away any resistance.

As they approached GWG.ng gathered that the policemen on duty took to their heels while the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC who were supervising the election laid down in surrender.

An eye witness disclosed that the gunmen after shooting their way to scare away resistance then grabbed the money from the three men who were distributing the cash.

GWG.ng reports that the drama of gunmen grabbing the money meant from vote buyers is bound to be another twist to the election that has been laced with controversies.

The political party or parties involved in the vote buying have yet to be identified.
