The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has received the names of Barrister Anderson Uwadiae Asemota and Barrister Monday Ojore Mawah as the Labour Party governorship and deputy governorship candidates in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State.

The names were forwarded to the commission in a letter dated 22nd February and received the same day by the office of the national chairman of INEC, according to a copy of the letter obtained by GWG.ng.

The development is coming even though the mainstream Julius Abure led mainstream of Labour Party organized a party primary that was won by Mr Olumide Akpata.

The letter submitting the two names was written by Alhaji Lamidi Apapa who signed as acting national chairman and Alhaji Saleh Lawan as acting national secretary.

The letter read thus:

We write to submit the names of our candidates that emerges (sic) from our Governorship primary election conducted today in Benin Edo State.

You will recalled (sic) that we had earlier notify (sic) the Commission about the conduct of our Party Governorship Primary today and we hereby forward the names of our Party flag bearer for the September 21, 2024 Governorship Election.

Governorship Candidate

Barr. Anderson Uwadiae Asemota

Deputy Governorship Candidate

Barr. Monday Ojore Mawa

We thank you in anticipation of your usual cooperation in this regard.

Accept the assurances of our highest regards.

Before the submission of Asemota as the Labour Party candidate for Edo State, it would be recalled that the spokesman of the Zone 5 police had while speaking to the press after Abure was arrested pointed to him as a factional chairman of Labour Party.

That assertion in the view of some underlines the perception of the authorities despite the court ruling affirming that Abure is the authentic national chairman.
