Subscribers Jubilate As MTN System Error Causes Debt Cancellation

MTN debt cancellation

An unexpected glitch in MTN’s system that initially caused the cancellation of debts owed the network by subscribers has left them uncertain about their debt status, raising concerns that previously canceled debts may still need repayment.

The confusion triggered mixed reactions on social media, with some subscribers mistakenly believing MTN deliberately erased their debts.

One user, Ada, shared on her WhatsApp status, “Debt has been paid. MTN debtors, check your account, MTN don clear una gbese.”

However, an MTN official clarified that the initial debt cancellation was unintentional and resulted from a system error. Subscribers may still be held accountable for the ostensibly cleared debts once MTN rectifies the glitch.

This revelation highlights the potential miscommunication between the telecom giant and its subscribers. Despite initial celebrations, the glitch underscores the importance of transparent communication in managing customer expectations. Subscribers are advised to stay vigilant about their account status and await further updates from MTN as the company works to resolve the technical issue.

GWG.ng reports that MTN, one of the country’s major mobile telephone networks which had in the past won a reputation for being stingy would have won itself big plaudits if the news of the debt cancellation had been a deliberate policy of the network.
