In compliance with the directives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) to embark on a nationwide strike, some public schools in Osun State were on Tuesday shut down on account of the absence of the teachers.

Recall that the Labour Unions had earlier asked its affiliate bodies to embark on industrial action.

Reports obtained on Tuesday revealed that students had resumed at their various schools in Osun around 9 a.m. today before the teachers sent them home. According to the PUNCH, some of the students were seen on the streets around Stadium, Ayetoro and West Bye pass, Osogbo returning home.

Journalists who visited some schools within the metropolis observed that teachers were in their various offices while the students had been sent home.

Some of the schools reportedly visited include Fakunle High School, Osogbo, Saint James Grammar School and Adenle Grammar School also located in Ayetoro Area, Osogbo.

The school teachers were sceptical to comments on the evolving strike particularly as it affected Osun State. However, a few who granted audience to journalists on condition of anonymity said they had resumed work only to be told of the commencement of the strike by labour leaders.
