Israeli Forces Take Control Of Gaza’s Largest Hospital

Published

on

Israeli Defence Forces, IDF are raiding Gaza’s biggest hospital, Al-Shifa, in what the military says is a “precise and targeted operation.” A journalist there said tanks had entered the hospital courtyard and troops were searching buildings and interrogating young men.

Israel has claimed the hospital includes a Hamas command center, an allegation denied by hospital officials and Hamas. The claims in support or in rebuttal cannot be be independently confirmed. GWG.ng reports that the IDF breached the premises of the hospital after days of mounting siege around the complex that is housing thousands of refugees who fled to the hospital complex to seek shelter from the fighting.

They add to the hundreds of patients and staff remain inside Al-Shifa, according to hospital officials.

The operation comes amid Israel’s escalating ground offensive in Gaza, aimed at destroying Hamas. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant claimed on Tuesday that Hamas had “lost control” in northern Gaza, including in Gaza City.

CNN reported that a truck delivered fuel from Egypt to a UN agency in Gaza Wednesday to be used only for transporting aid from Rafah, the organization said, adding that the fuel can’t be used by hospitals or for water due to Israeli restrictions. It’s the first truck to carry fuel into the Gaza Strip since Hamas’ October 7 attacks on Israel — but the UN has warned much more is needed to sustain humanitarian efforts.
