Police Arrest Suspected Killer Of Rivers DPO In Bayelsa

Police operatives in Bayelsa State have apprehended Onyekachi Ikowa, 43, a ranking member of the notorious Icelander cult group and suspected killer of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) SP Bako Angbashim in Rivers State.

The arrest took place on November 18, 2023, in Yenagoa, following the suspect’s escape from Rivers State. According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Asinim Butswat, the suspect has been transferred to the Rivers State Police Command for further investigation.

In a statement, Butswat revealed, “The suspect, one Onyekachi Ikowa, 43 years old, the second in command to TuBaba of the dreaded Icelander cult group, was arrested on 18 November 2023 based on credible intelligence that he was hibernating in Yenagoa after participating in the callous murder of Late SP Bako Angbashim in September 2023,” who was the DPO until his death.

Commissioner of Police for Bayelsa State, CP Francis Iduh, emphasized the commitment of the Bayelsa Command to eliminating criminals hiding within its jurisdiction. CP Iduh instructed police operatives to uncover any cohorts of the arrested suspect hiding in Bayelsa State, underscoring that the state would not be a safe haven for criminals. The apprehended suspect has been handed over to the Rivers Police Command for further investigation.
