The Impact and Inspire Wuraolami Foundation, a non-governmental organization, has provided substantial assistance valued at over N5 million and a job opportunity to Akinwale Akinbode, a National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) student grappling with kidney disease.

The foundation has pledged to mobilize N22 million for his kidney transplant.

Dame Ifeoyinola W. Jacobs, the founder of the NGO, disclosed that the assistance was delivered through the Impact and Inspire Wuraolami Foundation Disable Student Allowance. Represented by Mr. Ola Ojora, a director in the foundation, Dame Jacobs awarded Akinwale N2 million for his medical care, with an additional N500,000 to support his education. The foundation also committed to a monthly payment of N30,000 for Akinwale’s family to cover his upkeep, and various essentials were provided.

In a significant gesture, the foundation extended a remote job opportunity to Akinwale, allowing him to work from home at his convenience, promoting his self-esteem and sense of belonging. The foundation also pledged to empower Akinwale’s mother for self-employment.

Akinwale’s health challenges began in 2018, initially diagnosed with a slight protein in his urine. Despite improvement after treatment, the situation intensified in June 2023, leading to a diagnosis of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Akinwale is currently undergoing dialysis with the hope that his kidney function will improve. If not, a transplant costing N22 million will be required.

Having enrolled in NOUN to study Law in 2015, Akinwale had to discontinue his education in 2017 due to kidney issues. The NGO appealed to the public for assistance, emphasizing the urgency of the situation, with plans to undergo the transplant this month. Donations were encouraged to be made to the Impact and Inspire Account at Zenith Bank (A/C No: 1016185444).
