Governor Yahaya Bello-led Kogi State Government has issued a query to the Ohimege-Igu Koton-Karfi, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Gambo Isa Koto for supposedly engaging in partisan politics during the last governorship election.

The traditional ruler, who also serves as the Chairman of the Kogi Local Government Traditional Council, is accused of engaging in partisan politics during the recently concluded gubernatorial election in the state.

The query, personally signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr. Salami Momodu Ozigi Deedat, expressed serious concern over the alleged involvement in partisan activities, particularly highlighting its impact on the security of the local domain. The government contends that the actions of the traditional ruler played a role in triggering a crisis during the election period, resulting in the tragic death of an innocent young lady and leaving several others injured.

The query letter reads:

“It has come to the notice of the State Government that you deliberately engaged yourself in partisan politics.

“This is viewed very seriously, especially that your action, role, and participation in partisan politics endangered the security of your domain to the extent that a crisis erupted under your watch that led to the death of an innocent young lady in addition to several others that were wounded.

“In view of the above, you are hereby requested to forward a written explanation within 48 hours why disciplinary action should not be taken against you. Oral explanations may also be required from you when the State Government sets up a panel to examine your case.

“You are advised to give priority attention to the content of this letter, please, your Royal Majesty,” the commissioner said in the query to Koto.

In a similar development, on January 7, 2023, GWG.ng reported that Kogi State Government issued a query to the powerful but now deceased Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Dr. Ado Ibrahim, over his alleged disrespect in not personally receiving President Muhammadu Buhari during his state visit to the state at the end of last year. The monarch was also alleged to have disrespected Governor Yahaya Bello who was the chief host during the visit on December 29, 2022.
