President Bola Tinubu has been called upon to sustain the gains of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP by causing a stability in the administration of the programme.

Speaking against the background of renewed calls for another dislocation of the management of the scheme, the Community Development Committees of Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Areas said that it was time that the PAP be protected from external and internal dissension inspired by those interested in milking the well-intentioned programme.

Comrade Joseph Ambakederimo, chairman of the board of the Community Development Committees of Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Areas in a statement said that the sustenance of the PAP was not just for the sake of protecting the gains for oil production but also a moral burden for the government in its engagement with the once unhappy militants.

While appraising the administration of the PAP under the present administrator, General Barry Ndiomu (rtd), the group called on Tinubu thus, said:

“There must be a reward for those who have excelled in their areas of endeavour. General Barry Ndiomu Rted, has made successes that should be rewarded and the reward is for President Bola Tinubu to confirm him as the Substantive Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

“No doubt there have been successes recorded so far under the leadership of General Barry Ndiomu. Some of which are the establishment of the Presidential Amnesty Cooperative Society Fund, which is headed by a retired Supreme Court Judge in the person of  Justice Tabai, which comes as a buffer for post Amnesty livelihood,” Comrade Ambakaderimo said of the fund that is completely outside the control of the coordinator.

He also hailed as a masterstroke, the restructured and timely payment of scholarship to beneficiaries, the continued training of participants in core areas of needs and many other achievements made in a short period confirms the Retired General is well equipped to deliver as expected.

In calling for the stability of the management of the PAP, Comrade Ambakaderimo said that recent innovative programmes which he said should be pursued to logical conclusion.

“The regular change of the leadership has adversely impacted the programme and impeded past gains by some of the preceding coordinators that came before General Barry Ndiomu.

“Therefore it is the opinion of the Board of Trustees and Management of the the Community Development Committees of Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Areas, that there should be less political interference in the management of this laudable programme in order for the innovations brought under the current leadership headed by General Barry Ndiomu to crystallize,” the group said in its call on President Tinubu as concerning its concerns on the PAP.
