Tragedy unfolded in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo state as three traditional rulers lost their lives in a road crash at the Arinkinkin area of Ogbomoso on Friday night, December 1, 2023.

The deceased monarchs were en route to the burial ceremony of the mother of another traditional ruler, Oloolo of Oolo, Oba Oyebunmi Ajayi. The three deceased Obas from the local government were Olodogbo of Odogbo, Onibowula of Bowula, and Alayetoro of Ayetoro.

The fatal accident occurred when their vehicle collided with an oncoming truck while on their way to the party. Olodogbo was confirmed to have died on the spot, and the timing of the other two’s passing remains unclear.

A source at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso confirmed the incident to Ogbomoso Insight Online, stating that the bodies were deposited in the hospital’s morgue. The fourth victim, who sustained injuries, is receiving medical attention, with the source noting that he “doesn’t look like an Oba.”
