Untold Reasons Obaseki’s Spokesman, Okungbowa Resigned

Andrew Okungbowa, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) of Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State, has resigned from his position.

He cited his dissatisfaction with the way he was treated as the reason for his resignation.

Okungbowa’s appointment was announced by Osarodion Ogie, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), just five months ago.

Okungbowa’s three-paragraph resignation, which was obtained on Tuesday, December 5, in Benin by our reporter, was dated December 4, 2023, and addressed to Obaseki.

The CPS, who was appointed on July 25, 2023, said: “I write to formally inform you of my resignation from my position as CPS to the governor, with immediate effect. I am most grateful for the privilege and opportunity to serve the governor and the state. Please, accept my kind felicitation.”

It was gathered that Okungbowa was not comfortable with the fact that the Edo governor rated much higher, and treated quite better, the unprofessional social media influencers in Government House, Benin, which was described as unacceptable.

It was learnt that some high-ranking officials of the Obaseki government attempted to intervene in the situation, but the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) had already made up his mind and as such resigned before he could be further dissuaded.

He said Governor Obaseki had met with him in Lagos and requested that he join his media team to support his Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, in preparation for the crucial September 21, 2024 governorship election, saying that he was later treated with disrespect.
