President Bola Tinubu on Monday inaugurated a fleet of 107 Mass Transit vehicles, which notably included 50 electric taxis procured by the Borno Government during his visit to Maiduguri.

Commending Governor Babagana Zulum for his forward-thinking and people-centric initiatives, President Tinubu expressed the Federal Government’s intent to establish a plant in the region, focusing on job creation and transportation facilitation.

Highlighting the motivation behind the initiative, Governor Zulum stated that the directive from the President, particularly following the removal of the fuel subsidy, inspired the project. The deployment of 50 electric taxis marked a pioneering step in Nigeria, aligning with the imperative of addressing climate change.

The array of vehicles inaugurated comprised 50 electric taxis, 35 coaster buses, 12 hummer buses, and 10 luxurious buses, reflecting a comprehensive approach to mass transit. President Tinubu’s visit included a courtesy call on the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi, emphasizing the importance of engaging with local leaders.

The President also played a key role in opening the annual Chief of Army Staff Conference during his visit, further underscoring the multifaceted aspects of his official engagement in Maiduguri.
