Amilo on Air Peace

Actor Jerry Amilo’s recent public protest against Air Peace’s soaring ticket prices created a significant stir, particularly on Thursday. Expressing his discontent on social media, Amilo couldn’t fathom the staggering cost of a mere 50-minute flight from Lagos to Owerri, which had skyrocketed to an eye-watering N266,000.

In a passionate post, Amilo delved into the perceived irrationality of such exorbitant pricing, especially during the Christmas season. His concern wasn’t solely about the high cost but also the apparent inconsistency in Air Peace’s pricing strategy. He pointed out the pricing disparity, emphasizing that a longer two-hour flight to Maiduguri was priced at N150,000, almost half of the amount for the shorter trip to Owerri.

This pricing incongruity fueled Amilo’s accusations against Air Peace and its owner, Allen Onyema, suggesting that they were exploiting customers under the pretext of profit-making. He honed in on what he perceived as a targeted approach, particularly against the Igbo community who traditionally embark on journeys home during the festive period.

Amilo’s critique transcended mere pricing concerns; it extended to questioning Air Peace’s core values. He challenged the airline’s commitment to national unity and patriotism, reminding them of past patriotic acts like evacuating stranded Nigerians from Sudan free of charge. The actor drew a stark contrast between these altruistic actions and what he perceived as exploitative pricing practices.

Urging Air Peace to reflect on its actions, Amilo employed an Igbo proverb, advising the airline to “count its teeth with its tongue.” This implied a call for self-awareness and consideration, encouraging the airline to reassess its current approach and align it more closely with the principles of fairness and public service.
