The first civilian governor of the New Anambra State and elder statesman, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife has died at 85, the family has announced.

GWG.ng reports that the family of the former governor announced the death of Ezeife in a statement issued in the wee hours of Friday, December 15, 2023.

The sharp witted former governor remembered for his unwavering support for the actualization of the June 12 mandate of Chief MKO Abiola died at the age of 85.

Ezeife according to the statement died on Thursday evening in Abuja.

The statement announcing that Ezeife had died was issued by Chief Rob Nwakaire Ezeife, Ahaejiejemba Igbo-Ukwu.

The statement obtained by GWG.ng read thus:

“On behalf of the Ezeife Dynasty of Igbo-Ukwu, I wish to announce the promotion to glory of our most distinguished son, Okwadike, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, CON, a former Federal Permanent Secretary, the first Executive Governor of Anambra State, a former Political Adviser to the President and former Presidential Aspirant. This sad event took place yesterday at 6pm at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja. More details about the deceased and the arrangements for his State Burial will be announced later.”

GWG.ng reports that Ezeife died months after his successor as civilian governor, Dr Chinwoke Mbadiniju passed away.
