Lalong’s Confusion Over Senate Seat Underlines Injustice To Plateau PDP
Plateau Peace and Good Governance Advocates, PEGGA has expressed shock over claims of confusion by the minister of labour, Mr Simon Lalong on claiming the Plateau South Senate seat following the decision of the Court of Appeal awarding him the election.
The group said that the claim of confusion underlined the declared fact that Lalong even as an incumbent governor lost the election but was awarded the seat by the controversial technical decision of the Court of Appeal.
The group in a statement issued by its national coordinator, Mani Imman said:
“Whereas several members of the National Assembly resigned their seats to take up a position in the Federal Executive Council, FEC, Lalong is making a reverse decision to leave the federal cabinet for the Senate for political expediency.
“The reason is that it is only through the court that he and many in the APC can represent the people of Plateau and certainly not through elections.
“His decision to take up the Greek gift offered him by the Court of Appeal which used a pre-election matter to determine an election is mainly because he knows that the APC cannot win the election if he refuses to take up the seat.
Concluding, the group said that the confusion expressed by Lalong was another pointer to the injustice done the PDP by the Court of Appeal using a pre-election matter as against the injunction of the Supreme Court to determine an election matter.
