Igwe James Agbogo, the traditional ruler of Nkalagu Obukpa community in Enugu State, has been released after enduring four days in captivity following his abduction on December 21st.

The monarch, who faced the harrowing experience of being held captive for four days, finally regained his freedom on Christmas Day through negotiations with his kidnappers. The Nation reported that his release was facilitated by the payment of N6 million as ransom and the fulfillment of other demands, including the delivery of items like a bag of rice, a carton of wine, and various food ingredients.

The Igwe, who was in the midst of preparations for his coronation scheduled for December 28, was forcefully abducted from his palace, adding a sinister twist to the anticipation of his upcoming royal event. Following his release, he was promptly taken to a hospital for necessary medical attention.

In a separate tragic incident within the region, the brutal murder of Mr. Patrick Ezugwu, a traditional ruler in Enugu State from Akutara in Adani Autonomous Community, Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, led to the arrest of eight suspects. The Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, visited the affected community and assured the populace of the law enforcement’s dedication to arresting the perpetrators involved in the heinous act.

He conveyed that the governor had mandated a swift investigation to apprehend those responsible and ensure that justice is served for the tragic incident. These incidents highlight the challenges faced by traditional rulers, emphasizing the need for enhanced security measures to safeguard their lives and the stability of the communities they serve.
