Nothing Special With Ighodalo’s Visit To SWC – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State has debunked claims to the effect that billionaire governorship aspirant, Asue Ighodalo has helped to unite the State Working Committee, SWC saying on Wednesday that there was nothing extraordinary with his meeting with the party leadership.

The PDP in a statement made available to GWG.ng affirmed that the visit of Ighodalo was not the first by the governorship hopefuls as the SWC said that before him others had met with the party Edo leadership in similar conditions.

The statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Vasco Ogie read thus:

The attention of the State Working Committee has been drawn to the news information circulating in the social media since yesterday, 9th of January 2024, purporting that a Governorship aspirant, Dr. Asue Ighodalo caused a State Working Committee meeting to be held and the said meeting brought “unity” to the SWC.

We wish to inform the public and our teeming supporters that the visit by Dr. Asue Ighodalo to the State Working Commiittee meeting yesterday, was nothing out of the ordinary. It was just a normal visit to declare his intention to run for Governor. Prior to his visit the State Working Committee had received other aspirants, who chose to keep the details of their visits private. Note that the visit of Dr. Asue Ighodalo did not in any way bring about any “unity” or “unification” of the State Working Committee, neither did it prompt a first meeting in a year, as narrated on social media. It is on record that the SWC has held meetings in the past as it deemed expedient.

Edo State PDP remains focused on the coming Governorship election and encourages all party faithful to join in efforts to win the election, and retain the seat of Government House, Osadebey Avenue Benin City, come September 21st, 2024.

GWG.ng reports that the PDP SWC aims to assert as erroneous the claim that Ighodalo unified the party leadership in Edo State.
