In a resounding victory, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged triumphant, securing the chairmanship and 312 councillorship positions across all 27 local government areas in Borno State. Notably, this electoral triumph marked a historic moment as Inna Galadima, the APC candidate in Jere LGA, clinched victory, becoming the first female to be elected local government council chairman in the state.

Inna Galadima, a distinguished figure with a background as a one-time Commissioner and Special Adviser, achieved a decisive win in the election. The Returning Officer of Jere LGA, Prof. Mohammed Konto, officially declared her the winner with an impressive vote tally of 110,459. In contrast, her closest rival, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), secured a mere 2,478 votes.

Alhaji Lawan Maina, the Executive Chairman of Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC), announced the comprehensive results of the local government elections. Addressing the public in Maiduguri, he stated, “Following the conduct of the election on Saturday, today we have received results from the 27 LGAs, and as empowered by the law under Section 10, in my position as the Chief Returning Officer of the state, I read out the results as follows…”

He continued to affirm the APC’s dominance by declaring, “The ruling party, APC, won all the 27 Local Government Chairmen in the state. Equally, the ruling party has won all the 312 council members (councillorship) in all the wards of the state.” This sweeping victory underscored the party’s formidable performance at both the local government and councillorship levels.

The announcement marked the conclusion of the electoral process, and Alhaji Lawan Maina indicated that the presentation of certificates to the winners would be organized at a later date, soon to be announced. The outcome solidified the APC’s stronghold in Borno State, setting the stage for the incoming leadership to assume their respective roles in steering the local governance of the state.
