Students Protests LGBTQ

A trending video that captured students protesting against the introduction of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) movement into the country, is sparking up reactions across various social media platforms.

The advocacy was said to be embarked upon through peace walks by students and pupils in Jos, the Plateau State capital with the aim of creating awareness of the dangers inherent in a system that they say is alien to Nigeria

They were seen lifting up placards revealing diverse inscriptions such as “I am a boy, I am not a girl, I can never be a girl”; “LGBTQ is an error”; “No to LGBTQ, we don’t want it in Nigeria”; in order to drive home their message.

They were also heard shouting repeatedly, “no LGBTQ”

The student group appealed to the president not to append the signature to any agreement that would introduce the LGBTQ culture into the country because it is at variance with Nigerian culture and national values.

One of the female students representing the student populace expressed her voice on the issue, “The agreement between the European Union and the African Caribbean Pacific Group of States is the highest level of wickedness. This is destruction to our sexuality and our future. This is the highest level of wickedness that they can do to us. We say no to LGBTQ and we say no to their agreement”.

A male student representative aired his voice, “These guys don’t understand what we are doing here, they don’t know our morals, they don’t know our standards. They don’t know the godly principles we have grown up with and then they come to us to enforce laws on us and expect us to accept it. This is a Democratic system. The interest of the  people is put first”.

Sharing her thoughts on the peace walk, Mrs Ekaete Dang who is a counselor and a teacher said, the peace walk is one of the ways of safeguarding the youths from embracing ideas that will ruin their future.

“We are fighting with drugs, we are fighting with exam malpractice, we are fighting with many other vices. Right now, to bring this to the forefront because children are waiting to say right now we know in our society, it doesn’t match with our values. We don’t see that as right behavior both at local or national level. We can’t make such choices in things we can legalize or train our children in.”

Meanwhile, the Director of National Orientation Agency, through the state director, Kaneng Pam Hworo stated that The issue will not stand the test of time.

“This LGBTQ issue is a completely alien thing. For us as Nigerians and my mandate here in the National Orientation Agency and as an African, we have values, and our values do not include marriage of a male to a male or female to a female” She said.
